Filipinos in UAE give mandate to opposition

FILIPINOS in the UAE went for the 7:4:1 in favour of the opposition in the recently-concluded month-long overseas absentee voting that will help determine who, among 37 candidates will be serving their country as senators until 2010.

This was gleaned from the results of the certificates of canvass (COC) posted at the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi for two days last week.

Consul General for Abu Dhabi and Al Ain Maria Theresa Taguiang said the public viewing for 48 hours of the second of six copies of the COC results is a requirement and a provision in the Commission on Elections (Comelec) guidelines.

“It is being transparent and part of the democratic process,” she told The Gulf Today on Wednesday.

The COCs are the election returns from all polling precincts.

Sources said that among 3,602 who cast their votes from April 14 to May 14, they chose Sen. Francis Pangilinan (independent) 2,763 votes; losing 2004 vice presidential candidate Loren Legarda (Genuine Opposition), 2,492; Sen. Manuel Villar (GO), 2,297; Camarines Norte Rep. Francis Escudero Jr. (GO), 2,285; Tarlac Rep. Benigno Simeon Aquino III (GO), 2,362; Sen. Ralph Recto (Team Unity-administration), 2,267; Sen. Joker Arroyo (TU), 1,976; Sen. Panfilo Lacson (GO), 1,976; Taguig City Rep. Allan Peter Cayetano (GO), 1,832; former Sen. Edgardo Angara (TU), 1,613; Malacanang spokesman Michael Defensor (TU), 1,541; and Aquilino Pimentel III (GO), 1,474. Read the rest of this entry »

Democracy is destroying the Philippines

Posted by Admin on March 18, 2007

Democracy is destroying the Phillipines. Our politicians are unknowingly or ignoring the likelihood that a part of a democratic process is disadvantageous to our country. Politicians are using the election being a legitimate democratic process to gain personal interests.

Imagine the possibility of the following:

· Many Paquiao will win as a congressman against the incumbent Darlene Custodio-Antonino, a young and brave oppositionist who fought until the last seconds of “lutong Macao” impeachment trial of GMA. Imagine Many Paquiao interpolating a law he is sponsoring or depending GMA on another impeachment trial. Read the rest of this entry »

Migrants’ Manifesto for Issue-based Electoral Contest

We, the Overseas Filipinos worldwide, urge each and everyone in the coming May electoral contest to implore all political parties, emerging parties and their respective candidates to bring forth a platform-based campaign so that the electorate can choose credible persons who are worthy to lead the nation. In order to advance democratic governance in the Philippines, there should be a structure or process of reform that promotes increasingly participatory and accountable governance. In this context, the will and voice of the people should be respected at all times and the sanctity of the ballots must be safeguarded. Read the rest of this entry »

Pulitikong OFW

Posted by Admin on February 22, 2007

Remember Angelo dela Cruz the OFW who’s ticket to stardom is being a freed hostage in Iraq, he now joined Cesar Montano, Richard Gomez, Victor Wood, Nikki Coseteng, Tito Soto(senatoriables), Christopher de Leon (for Batangas Vice Governor), Vilma Santos (for Batangas Governor) and ATBP as celebrity candidates in the upcoming May 2007 elections. It will be an alternative now to Butch Pichay, Chavit Singson, Kiram and ATBP to gain popularity by working as a truck driver and be held in captivity in order to become popular because they have no chance on being a big celebrity. He is running as a councillor in his native town in Pampanga. Here is the gulfnews report.
